SOCIO-ECONOMY (ECOTOURISM)

OUR ACTIVITIES

KTCS focuses more on the local economics and social science. Via socio-economic activities, we are able to study the interactions between people with different socio-economic backgrounds behave and how each interaction has an impact on people’s livelihoods.

Tourism has played a crucial role in supporting the livelihoods of the local communities here in Kudat. KTCS has supported local businesses by promoting their handicrafts (crafted by the local women) as a means of empowering women and conserving the environment.

SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD PROJECT

The sustainable livelihood project is one of the many efforts linked to turtle conservation that is being implemented by KTCS. The objective is to boost the incomes of the local communities in Kudat; who are also KTCS members, as a way to support their efforts in protecting the sea turtles and its nesting habitats and foraging area. Activities undertaken under this project are capacity building to enhance skills, improving current facilities, aid in their businesses’ marketing, etc.

Voluntourism is a special package for those who are interested to volunteer in sea turtle community based conservation work while on vacation. This program is a great opportunity for those with an interest in conservation work and would like to have a hands-on experience in turtle conservation activities. Furthermore, the voluntourism participants will have the expereince in helping the local communities; who are members of KTCS in their daily activities realting to sea turtle and environmental conservation work.
